• Miles ISD Community Members,

We are looking forward to another great school year.  It represents another opportunity for our students to achieve great things.

Our goal is to pursue excellence in all that we do.  Academic excellence must be our top priority.  We want to prepare our students to be successful for the jobs of tomorrow and give them the skills to be competitive in a highly technical society.  We want to produce graduates that are college and job-force ready.  At the same time, we need to prepare our students to be successful on End of Course standardized testing required for graduation.  I want to assure you that this is not the only standard we use to measure success.  A particular score on a single test isn’t always indicative of the amount of learning that has taken place, nor is it a measure of the potential for success that a student may have.  Our goal is to implement purpose, creativity, interventions, problem-solving, collaboration, technology and critical thinking to engage our students at a level that prepares them for college and career readiness.  With these strategies in place, testing should take care of itself.

We all realize that we are teaching more than just academic content.  Our teachers are helping to guide our students in doing the right thing, reaching for the stars, encouraging, prodding, mothering, fathering, celebrating, mourning and growing together.  I hope you’ll join me in expressing appreciation to our teachers for the commitment they make for our student’s well-being.  We have diverse and multi-talented students.  They come in all shapes and sizes with an array of abilities.  I look forward to the achievements that they will earn in the coming year.

One of the biggest factors in the overall success of our students will be our ability to work in partnership with parents and community.  We especially want to encourage parents to take an active part in the education of their children.  It is important to allow your children to show you the things that they are learning.  We hope that you feel welcome in our schools.  Our campuses post a great deal of information on our website at www.milesisd.net.  Please visit the campus websites periodically for information and announcements.  Please remember that you can track your child’s progress through the Parent Portal via the website as well.

I want to remind parents that the school district provides some insurance for students while they are at school and participating in extracurricular activities. This insurance is secondary and is not intended to be primary coverage. Our insurance carrier makes extended 24 hour coverage available at a very reasonable cost to parents.  For information on this extended coverage, contact any campus office.

Please share with us in supporting our students to do great things.  We appreciate the support this community gives to our schools.  Our students benefit greatly from the interest you take in their education.
